HomeSpotlight – Watch Dr. Esteban Burchard of UCSF on why Latinos must be a part of cancer research
Latinas Contra Cancer will regularly spotlight cancer researchers that are working in the Latino community. We hope to highlight their efforts and to increase knowledge and awareness in the Latino community related to cancer findings.
Speaking at the 2016 National Cancer Latino Summit, Dr. Esteban Burchard, Director of the UCSF Center for Genes, Environment and Health raises concerns about the missed opportunities in Latino medical care, when less than 4.5% of all minorities are included in U.S. federally funded research. The presentation includes his reflections on his mother who died from lung cancer and inspired him to put his abilities to work for the good of Latinos.
To create an inclusive health care system that provides services to the underserved Latino population around issues of breast and other cancers.
Latinas Contra Cancer is raising awareness about cancer in the Latino community, increasing access to quality care, working to decrease mortality and improving the quality of the health care experience.
